State Fair, Lasta Mountains, Ethiopia
April 2007-December 2009 oil on linen, 30”h x 24”w.
A youth shrouded in the protective garb that shields him from harsh elements gazes out at the viewer inquisitively. The unyielding and demanding landscape of Ethiopia’s highlands gives way to the brightly colored grounds of a rural American county fair in the background. The sky above the boy cracks into parched fragments of brilliant color that echo the artificial colors and shapes of the fair in the distance.
